Chopta is incomparable to any other hill station in Uttarakhand. The beauty of Chopta lies in the fact that it is untouched by any kind of human development. It lies at an altitude of 2600 meters and consists of large bugyals or green meadows spread over acres. From the bugyal’s you can get a 360-degree view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The place is filled with tall deodar trees and Rhododendrons which display bright flowers in summer. Chopta is popularly called as “Mini Switzerland” due to its similarity with the Swiss Alps. It is a paradise for bird lovers as many species of birds can be spotted here.

Chopta has a very pleasant weather during the summers. In winters the place is always covered with sheets of snow. Many tourists from all over the world come here for trekking, both during summer and winter. The most famous trek is to the Tungnath temple which lies at an altitude of 3680 meters. It is a 04 km trek from Chopta and one has to encounter a very steep climb during this trek. Tungnath is one of the Panch Kedars dedicated to Lord Shiva. One can also visit the topmost part of this mountain called Chandrashilla which is at a height of 4000 meters. For this, you have to trek 1.5 km further up. There are some more trekking routes to Deoria Tal and Kartikswami. It is advisable to come for trekking during summers.

Chopta is easily accessible by a motorable road. It lies at a distance of 451 km from Delhi and 209 km from Rishikesh. The nearest airport is at Jolly Grand, Dehradun. There are a few budget hotels available in Chopta with basic amenities and few rooms. There is one hotel and few camps available in Dugalbitta which 10 km from Chopta. If you want better accommodation then you can opt to stay at Ukhimath which is 40 km away.

In summer the temperature is around 10-17 degrees. From November to March Chopta receives snowfall. During July and August it rains.
