This place is popularly known as 'Mini Switzerland' in Uttarakhand and Northen India. Chopta is situated at an altitude of 2900 meters and about 210 kms from Rishikesh. The breathtaking landscape, the misty views of the environment, lush green meadows (Bugyal) and dense forests and the beautiful views of the villages will win your hearts. Its breathtaking to see the mist enveloping the entire landscape in a blink as it passes through trees.

The spectacular scenes leave visitors completely fascinated. You will immerse yourself in the lap of mother- nature and will relish the memories of staying here for your life time. There are only a handful of places which still maintain their natural beauty and Chopta is one of them. The whole area of Chopta comes in the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary and lies in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. During winters it is heavenly, with snow as far as the eye can see. It is indeed a sight to behold.

How To Reach

Reaching Chopta by Bus There is only one bus per day on the Ukhimath-Chopta route. Alternately, you might try to take a bus or a shared jeep to Makhu Bend and then trek the 7 to 8 kms to Chopta.

Reaching Chopta by Train Rishikesh (209 km) is the nearest railhead to Chopta.

Reaching Chopta by Air The Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun 226 km) is the nearest Airport to Chopta.


From May to October, the temperature ranges between 17 °C (max.) and 10 °C (min.). The area is snowbound from mid-November till the last week of March. The average rainfall is 1475 mm. Rains in July and August may cause landslides.
